Bowen Technique

A Bowen treatment is very relaxing. “One of the most noticeable effects of a Bowen treatment is the feeling of well-being that it induces.”

Jane has always had an interest in complementary therapies and their role within healthcare. In 2003 she trained in Holistic Massage with Anatomy and Physiology at Yeovil College. During this ITEC course she had the opportunity of experiencing a Bowen Technique treatment and subsequently training with Frome based European College of Bowen Studies (ECBS). On qualifying in 2005 she worked at The Malt House Clinic Gillingham moving to Fitness By Design Gillingham Dorset to work along side Colin Fricker and the other therapists in November 2005. The Bowen technique a gentle hands on therapy suitable for all ages, that involves the therapist using their fingers and thumbs to move over tendons and fascia in specific parts of the body, to activate the body’s own healing abilities, relax the muscles, stimulate circulation and realign skeletal imbalances.

The work is very gentle and relaxing, there is no hard or prolonged pressure or manipulation. It is so gentle you hardly notice you are being touched. Fast pain relief is common. The technique can be used for all ages from babies to the elderly.

A session will last around 45 minutes to 1 hour, ideally a set of three treatments a week to10 days apart, should be undertaken to get the fully benefit of the technique.

Conditions that can be treated with the Bowen Technique.

  • Anxiety and stress related conditions.
  • Back Pain and sciatica Digestive and bowel problems such as IBS (irritable bowel syndrome)
  • Fibromyalgia chronic fatigue and ME.
  • Headaches and migraines
  • Respiratory problems such as asthma
  • Whiplash injuries.

Jane is fully qualified and insured. Having trained with ECBS (European College of Bowen Studies) she updates her training annually. She is a member of Embody (The complementary Therapist Association) and Bowen Technique European Register. (BTER.)
